个人简介
Dr. Akihiro Goto is an assistant professor in Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering (BSBE) Thrust, Systems Hub, HKUST (GZ), and in the Brain and Intelligence Research Institute. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Kyoto University, where he obtained comprehensive training in life sciences and neuroscience.
After completing his Ph.D. training, Dr. Goto conducted postdoctoral research at the Osaka Bioscience Institute (OBI) with support from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He was later selected as a Special Postdoctoral Researcher at RIKEN and subsequently joined Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine as a faculty member.
Dr. Goto’s major research interests focus on synaptic plasticity and memory-related neural processes. His work integrates advanced imaging techniques with molecular and cellular approaches to investigate how synaptic modifications support learning and long-term memory consolidation. Through studies on activity-dependent synaptic remodeling and offline neuronal activity during sleep, his research has provided important insights into the mechanisms by which neural circuits stabilize and reorganize memories. His findings contribute to a deeper understanding of memory formation and its dysfunction in neurological disorders.
