Dr. Shen’s major research interests focus on learning and memory processes. The lab employs cutting-edge technologies such as optogenetic tools (iTango, Opto-XR, Opto-nanobody), head-mounted miniature fluorescence microscopes (UCLA miniscope), and spatial transcriptomics (RNAscope, MERFISH) to explore the molecular and cellular underpinnings of these processes, from neural circuits to individual behavior, and to develop diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for aging and neurodegenerative diseases.
