About LAB

The Goto Lab is affiliated with the Brain and Intelligence Research Institute, within the Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering Thrust (BSBE) at the Systems Hub of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Our laboratory is dedicated to understanding the neural mechanisms underlying learning and memory, with a particular focus on synaptic plasticity and activity-dependent circuit dynamics.

Our research aims to elucidate how neuronal signaling and synaptic remodeling support memory formation, stabilization, and long-term consolidation. By integrating molecular biology, advanced imaging techniques, and systems neuroscience approaches, we investigate how experience-dependent neural activity shapes synaptic function and reorganizes neural circuits across different timescales, including offline processes during sleep.

Through these studies, we seek to provide mechanistic insights into how memories are encoded, maintained, and modified in the brain, and how disruptions of these processes contribute to cognitive impairment and neurological disorders.

We welcome you to join us in exploring these fundamental questions and advancing neuroscience research.
